Ok, I have officially decided that I HATE breastfeeding. It just doesn't work for me. For one, it hurts SO bad... I'm already recovering from childbirth, why does there need to be more pain?!? For two, I love that other people can feed her allowing me another short stint of sleep or a short break to reconnect with Rowan (who is desperate for my attention). On the other hand, I do agree that breastmilk is best for babies and want to provide her with the necessary immunity she needs in this world of germs... So, after struggling to make it work with Rowan and giving up after sheer and utter frustration (cracked, bleeding and 2 bouts of mastitis later), I determined that pumping with my hospital grade breast pump was the best way to go (only with Rowan it was a little too late, my milk had all but dried up)... So, Sarah is getting the pumped version and it's working!! For all you breastfeeders out there, I know you think I'm crazy, but my pump is so awesome that it takes me 10 minutes and I'm getting such a good milk supply (because I'm just pumping not trying to mess around latching too like w/Rowan) I'm one feeding ahead, so I feed her first, then pump and it takes me just about the same amount of time! I'm just so happy to have a routine with it all... The only problem is leaving the house?!? I went to a bridal shower today and literally had to race home because I was bursting and needed to pump!! I'll just have to pack that pump around with me, I guess... We'll see... I'll get creative. Any suggestions?

She is beautiful!! This is making me so anxious for my little baby! I need to come over and meet her. I can't get over all that hair, and she totally looks like Rowan!
Oh I love the picture with Nanna! So cute! I am sorry to hear that Breast Feeding is so difficult- and I am glad that the pumping is working out for both of you! Have you ever heard of a nipple shield??? Life saver for Aly and I. Keeps you protected/let's you heal while helping the baby latch on more easily. It's just a little piece of silicone you put over you and I cannot tell you how it saved me! You can get it at target in the bottle/pacifier isle- give it a try for if your in a bind and need/have to nurse the baby. Sarah is a beautiful, healthy baby and whether you breast or bottle feed nothing is going to change that! Hope you get enough rest!!!!
Crongrats! Crongrats!! Crongrats!!
She is so precious. I can't wait to meet her!
Sarah is adorable. We loved meeting her the other day. I think your feeding solution is perfect. It is all about what works best for mom and baby. Does your pump have a battery pack? When I was pumping for Ethan, I could bring my pump with me and do it in the car and then put it in a cooler for the rest of the day and it worked great. That way you don't always have to be at home to do it. Happy Mother's Day!
Kristy,
She is beautiful. Congrats on the breastfeeding feat! Really it is. As for leaving the house I have a Medela Harmony one handed breast pump, and it is a life saver. It is very small and compact, yet works amazing. I would just take it with me in the car or diaper bag, and if I got a little full, I would pull it out a pump for just a minute. Then I would finish pumping when I got home with my electric one. They are great. Plus it isn't too expensive and hardly has any parts, so you don't have to worry about losing anything. Anyway go to drugstore.com and type in Medela Harmony Breast Pump and you can see a picture of it. Well I hope that helps.
Hope to see you and your cute little family soon.
Heather, your cousin
Yeah...pumping worked better for me too. As far as going anywhere...you DON"T. No, just kidding....but you will find yourself home a lot more with TWO little ones and your "milkin machine."
Sarah is beautiful by the way...love the pics.
She is so sweet. It made me so excited for my little girl to see her the other day!
She's gorgeous and I think she looks like Rowan! Congrats Kristy!!!
Kristy she is adorable! I love the hair! It reminds me of Reese when she was born! Everyone told us how tan she looked and how much hair she had! I love the name and I'm glad to hear that you have a feeding pattern down. It's a lot of work, I know. I hope you can get some sleep but in the meantime, enjoy your two beautiful babies!
She is beautiful!! Look at all that hair. I can't believe that. You guys did good. Can't wait to meet her. Try to get some sleep Mommy.
Congratulations!!! She is beautiful! Look at all that hair. You did good. Can't wait to meet her.
I pumped for 10.5 months with Stila. I just took the pump everywhere, but you can buy a car lighter adapter and do it in the car (not that convenient with two kids in the back seat, I know, but if Mark's with you or driving, it's not bad). Having nursed Alexa for 8 months now, I can definitely say nursing is WAY more convenient (it's getting through the first 3 weeks that's the hardest). She's adorable! Girls are so fun!
She is gorgeous! When we do come over to see her we WILL bring over that sippy cup!!!! How embarrassing that we post a picture with her using it:) I can't tell you how many times we've brought it to church only to cart it back home. Tell Rowan the pirate cup is coming! Can't wait to see you guys!
I've been checking your blog waiting for a post and some pics of your sweet new baby! She is so cute--I'm crazy about all that hair!!
"B-feeding", as I like to call it, is so complex, isn't it? If it is nature's way, why it is so dang hard to do? I think you have to do whatever works best for you. If you think you can handle the nursing, I would try a shield and hang in there for a couple more weeks--I promise it gets easier! But if pumping works, great. There were definitely times when I would have welcomed someone else taking a turn feeding my babies... especially at 3 a.m.! So do what works for you, and feel fine about it.
Congrats again...she is beautiful. Hopefully I can meet her soon at a waterpark play date! :)
Call me girl- I feel your pain- breastfeeding is definatley a scarifice- in all kinds of ways- but a once in a lifetime opportunity to give them something no one else can give them- and an opportunity to bond with them in such a unique way you will never get to do again for the rest of their life... anyway- been there done that on the mastitas etc. etc.- I'm here to tell ya IT WILL GET BETTER- breastfeeding is not meant to feel like misery- and it will get easier/better- but I DO feel your pain! I will call you or you call me- :)
First of all your baby girl is beautiful! I can't believe all that hair. Secondly, you should buy the Medela Mini Electric Pump. It's awesome for on-the-go pumping and it's very small and discreet. I have to agree with your friend Jodie though...I, too, have been on both sides of this fence. Pumping sucks!
She is gorgeous! I hear you on the breastfeeding thing. It definitely has its pros and cons. If I have another, I think I'll do half formula and half breast feeding. I am so happy for you!
I'd hire a specialist. Mine was my savior. Having someone show you whats wrong beats pumping.
She us beautiful.. looks just like Rowan. I love her.
GORGEOUS! I can't believe that head of hair... she is just a doll. CONGRATS! When you join the world again after getting some regular sleep, we'll come visit. And nursing, pumping, etc.- all a major labor of love in my book. You just do what you can! Good luck. XO~ Lisa
Hey I found your blog!! She's adorable. I still can't get over how much hair she has...crazy!
She is absolutely gorgeous! What a whole head of beautiful hair too! She's sooooo cute! I'm so excited for you guys! She is precious! Congratulations!!!! Love you all!
She is beautiful. Congrats Fishy!! She has so much hair! :D We miss you guys! Hope to see you soon!
