disney HALF!

I got up at 3:30 AM this morning and headed out to Anaheim to run 13.1 miles with 13,000 other people in the crazy heat. I'd say that it was nuts, but I had a great run and was so entertained the entire time that I wasn't too bothered by the heat or the early start (6 AM). Just before the race started, the announcer said that the "air quality" level was at a RED and when the level goes to BLACK (the next level), the whole race was canceled!! Pretty crazy, but fortunely the race went on and we were only left with little sore throats afterward... We started off at Downtown Disney and ran the first few miles through Disneyland. Most of the kiddie rides were going (how many people can say they've seen the dumbo ride going with NO kids in it?! well, I guess 13,000 of us :) and runners were stopping right and left to take their picture with Goofy, Pluto and other characters all out and about cheering us on! Yes, the runners were running with their cameras?! (I'll know better next time to take mine!) Then miles 4-9 got a little boring... running along Ball and Harbor on the other side of the 5 but there were lots of bands and high school cheerleaders along the way to mile 10 which was through Angels Stadium!! Seriously that was the highlight! I felt like a celebrity, the crowds that gathered all along the race just before the stadium were huge, tons of girl and boy scouts all holding out their little hands for you to slap as you ran by, cheering your name! (it's printed on the race bib) It was so fun, I have to say I enjoyed every mile of that race! I felt great afterward too (such a relief from last time!!)... Rowan, on the other hand, wasn't too happy in that stinky heat, but I was so happy to see him and Mark after my long run!! So, do you think I'm ready for the full marathon??!?? Hmmm, maybe... My running girls, Suzanne & Kim
We had a great Labor Day! After the race we had a lobster and shrimp boil with our wonderful neighbors (a tradition for Red Rail Laners on Labor Day now!!)... Weather has been unbelievably hot and sticky so it was nice to stay indoors with great air conditioning and take nice refreshing dips in the pool. It was such a great day.

You know you're my hero. If you can do the full marathon I'm all for it! Too bad you will probably lose a toe nail or two, but it would be quite the accomplishment. Suzanne was telling me about all the fun things you get to run through. If I ever did one...it would have to be that one - b/c #1-I LOVE disneyland and #2 - I get bored way to easily running for that long. You're amazing Kristy. What can't you do????

I was thinking of you this morning Kristy! My uncle ran the marathon too- we of course didn't make our way over to D-land until much later- but I heard the run was awesome! Way to go! :)

We're so proud of you!!! That sounded like sooooo much fun. So sad that we couldn't make it... family time and trying to get ready for school today didn't make for the most fun Labor Day :). Anyway, congrats!

You and Suzanne are too much! How great that you are both in such great shape to be running half marathons every other month! Maybe one day I'll be there with you . . . . actually maybe not. I'll just cheer you on!
