what girls camp looks like these days...

I'm back! But, soo tired. Girl's Camp was such a blast! It brought me back to those days of staying up late, braiding hair and giggling and talking about boys all night! Oh, and screaming every time someone said there was a bear outside our cabin... which, apparently are quite the nuisance at the Pilgrim Pines Camp in Yucaipa, CA... a great camp, but literally bears everywhere scrounging around for food. We were completely banned from outside food... as in nothing, not even gum! Because if you throw the wrapper away, the bears can smell it and will break into a cabin to get it. Last year, a bear tried to break into a parked car with leftover In-n-Out and broke off the rearview mirror! Talk about aggressive! So, cafeteria-style food 3 times a day and nothing else... Let me just say, I was so sick. One day, Erika (Camp Director from our ward) and I snuck out and went on a diet coke run, talk about the highlight of the week!!! Food like that isn't meant for people who are used to healthier, fresher food... We had stuff like sausages, greasy bacon and eggs for breakfast, pizza, enchiladas (which tasted good in the moment, but turned deadly by the evening...) for lunch, and dried out chicken, or roast beef with buttery veggies for dinner... Some meals were ok, and the saving grace was the salad bar every day. The main problem was you only had about 20 minutes to eat everything before you had to clean-up! So it was shovel the bad food down as fast as you can, endure the long line at the salad bar, then go hungry for 5 hours until the next meal. First of all, I don't eat food like that normally, and second, I cannot eat that fast! Needless to say, the week was so so fun, but I'm still recovering from the food part with the cafeteria and the bears "rules". And, I don't think I've heard my name "Sister Dunning" being called out so many times! "Sister Dunning, will you braid my hair?" "Sister Dunning, listen to what this boy at school said!" "Sister Dunning, watch this cheerleading trick!" It was the cutest thing ever, and I am missing those girls! They have such a light about them. So bubbly and bright. I was beyond impressed with them. They are so strong, so much stronger than I was at their age. Out of 18 girls, we did not have anyone feel left out, get into any little tiffs, or have any girlish cattiness... They were absolute angels! I had the best time and am looking forward to next year! Although, I did miss Rowan. It was so hard to leave him for that long! He was so cute when I came home, he was so excited! So, next year when he's older and more of a terrible 2-er, it will be easier to leave him!! Ha ha...Our silly Youth Camp Leaders (age 16ish)... they got pretty creative with their camp attire, one outfit even included a fly swatter tied to one leg with a bandana...

This was the "Sister Dunning" fan club... so sweet.

I thought this fire was hilarious... so measly for roasting marshmellows! Not like our huge beach bonfires from the HB days...

I'd forgotten how silly girls are... I was among the silliest when I was at camp!

The whole group waiting for lunch...

In-n-Out on the way home...

Okay...So Cute! How sad that I think I can maybe name 2 girls in the whole group. I really need to branch out more to the youth. I'm sure it was a blast being with a bunch of teenagers. Nothing will put you in a sillier mood, I'm sure. Sorry about the food. I can't say I'm that jealous. I love the new layout too and that picture of Rowan in the tub is amazing! Talk about the right place at the right time. I'm going to miss you while you're on your long trip. Hurry home.

So fun! The girls are so lucky to have you as a leader - I am sure they will never forget hanging with "Sister Dunning"! I hope you've recovered from the bad food, and that you have fun in Idaho! We'll miss you guys.

My stomach is churning just from your description of the food. Mystery meat enchiladas are never a good thing. Hope you have fun on your vaca and get to enjoy being back with your fam!

Being one of the girls who got to go to camp for about a day and had the privelege to spend time with this awesome person it was so fun! Seriously all those who weren't there missed out big time! Sister Dunning is one of my most favorite people without a doubt. It is true that we were constantly saying "Sister Dunning this Sister Dunning that (me being one of them) haha." And she never minds it either.so awesome! Anyways I sure love ya Sister Dunning and thanks for a great time at camp!
